Anonymous asked: is oolong supposed to be like, the mildest thing ever, or am i doing something wrong? also, i just got loose tea for the first time, and i am wondering how much to put in?
Oolong is between a green and a black tea on the caffeine scale, but there are different kinds of oolong leaves. Taiwanese oolong leaves are typically fermented, producing a darker liquid, whereas Chinese oolong leaves are just dried, creating a lighter, green tea-like liquid. Both are supposed to aid in healthy digestion.
As for how much to use? I like to use about one teaspoon of oolong leaves per 12-16 ounces of water, but it depends on how strong you want your tea to taste, and how big your strainer is- the more room the better, because oolong leaves open up and expand quite a bit! They can also be used multiple times in a 24hr period. I think Monkey Picked Oolong tastes best, for example, on the third brew, but that’s just my opinion : )
